“Watch your thoughts, for they become words.Watch your words, for they become actions.Watch your actions, for they become habits.Watch your habits, for they become character.Watch your character, for it becomes your destiny.”

When I started my weight loss journey, I wasn’t very confident in myself. The extra pounds I was carrying around were weighing on my body and my mind. Deep down, I felt unworthy of love because I was overweight. My negative thoughts plagued my mind and reflected in my words, actions, and habits. I walked around with my head down and shoulders slouched. I almost never made eye contact because I believed that the eyes were the windows to the soul, and mine was lost. The truth is that I wasn’t very happy with myself and I didn’t know how to change that.
One day I decided to turn on the TV while I was getting ready for work. I flipped through the channels until I came across a program called “Enjoying Everyday Life”. The speaker talked about how important it was that we enjoy life and not just exist. As I listened, I realized that I had been living in survival mode for a while. To me, every day that I survived life was an accomplishment, but that wasn’t really living. I needed more. The next morning, I watched the program again and I was hooked. It wasn’t long before I noticed a change in how I thought and how I felt. The program had given me just the push I needed to make a permanent change.
Each day, I watched “Enjoying Everyday Life” and followed it with a 30 minute exercise routine. At first it was really a struggle because I hadn’t exercised in months. It was a hard getting back into the swing of things, but I focused on just making it through the workouts. As time went on, the workouts became easier and I was able to increase my intensity. Within a matter of weeks, my hard work paid off and the pounds began to drop. I was so proud of what I had accomplished and I couldn’t turn back!
I am convinced that watching the program daily was one of the keys to my success. Each day, the speaker spoke in a way that inspired me to be a better person. I started to believe that I possessed the power to change my life and focused on the future rather than the past. I believe that positive thinking is what made everything else to fall into place. I wasn’t perfect, but I was making progress, and for once that was good enough for me.
No matter how many times you’ve failed, you have the power to change your life. Whether you want to lose 20, 30, or 50 pounds, you can do it; you just have to believe that you can. No one can believe it for you; you must believe deep down that you have what it takes. All it takes is a decision. You must decide that today is the first day of the rest of your life. Once you make the decision to make your health a top priority, you’ve won half of the battle.
The battle of the bulge begins in the mind. As you begin this weight loss journey, make a commitment to allow yourself at least 15 minutes of inspirational “me time” each day. There are many ways you can find inspiration - watch a TV program, read a book, look for motivational quotes, or listen to a self-help CD. Whatever your choice, do it and do it consistently. Before you know it, you will begin thinking positively about yourself and your ability to achieve any goal you have set for yourself.
If you think you are beaten, you are,If you think you dare not, you don't.If you like to win, but you think you can't,It is almost certain you won't.
If you think you'll lose, you're lost,For out in the world we find,Success begins with a fellow's will. It's all in the state of mind.
If you think you are outclassed, you are,You've got to think high to rise,You've got to be sure of yourself beforeYou can ever win a prize.
Life's battles don't always goTo the stronger or faster man.But soon or late the man who wins,Is the man who thinks he can.
